Arrest Made in Athens Home Invasion Robbery

Limestone County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a home on Highway 99 in Athens Wednesday, regarding a home invasion with shots fired.  The resident reported finding a man breaking into his vehicle. He said the man pointed a rifle at him and chased him into his home where he was able to grab a firearm and shoot the subject multiple times. Apply For Limestone SD 2026 Citizen’s Academy

The Limestone County Sheriff’s Department is accepting registration for their 2026 Sheriff’s Citizen Academy.  The six-week program provides a behind-the-scenes look at what it truly takes to serve and protect the community.  The program is open to all community members age 18 years and older.  A background check is required.  To apply, email Captain Caleb Durden at:  caleb.durden@limestonesheriff.com.

LCHS Band Takes Honors in Competition

The Lawrence County High School Band competed in their first competition of the season on February 7 at Green Hill High School in Mt. Juliet.  The Indoor Percussion ensemble captured first place and the Winter Guard took second place in the Scholastic Regional AA class.  Band Director Darrell Boston pointed out that both groups showcased outstanding talent, dedication and school pride.

Huntsville PD Reports Decreases in Crime Rates

The Huntsville Police Department reports that newly released 2025 crime statistics show that Huntsville is one of the nation’s safest cities.   The city experienced an 18% decrease in violent crimes, a 9% decrease in major crimes, and an overall decrease of 6% on all offenses.  The city’s population has grown by 24% since 2019, yet crime rates have continued to decline.

Lobelville Residents Advised of Debris Pickup

The City of Lobelville is now picking up vegetative debris from the recent ice storm.  Pickup is limited to brush, tree limbs, and similar materials.  No construction materials, household trash, or other debris will be collected.  Debris must be placed within 8 feet of the roadway, but away from mailboxes, fire hydrants and utility meters.

Savannah PD Warns of Counterfeit $100 Bills

The Savannah Police Department is warning the public that counterfeit $100 bills have been circulating in the area.  They have received several complaints indicating that the fake bills had been passed at local businesses.  If you receive a $100 bill, they advise you to check it.  If you believe it is fake, please notify law enforcement so the bills can be removed from circulation.

Spring Hill Police Capture Teens Following Lengthy Chase

Spring Hill Police officers were able to apprehend two of three teenagers Monday after attempting to detain them in a parking lot.  The teens were in a parking lot and fled when officers approached.  They led officers on a chase, striking a parked vehicle, then fled along Saturn Parkway and Interstate 65.  The driver crashed on I-65 near Old Hickory Boulevard and all three teens exited the car and fled […]

Leoma Students Donate to Butterfly Foundation

Fifth grade students at Leoma Elementary School presented The Butterfly Foundation with a donation of more than $700 Thursday.  The students held both a coin drive and a “hat day” fundraiser to collect funds while celebrating their one-thousandth day of school.  The Butterfly Foundation, was created in 2007 in memory of Wayne County’s Ryleigh Stegall who died from at age 7 from leukemia.
