According to media reports, a preliminary hearing has been scheduled for November 3 at 1 PM for former Colbert Heights baseball coach Eli Fuller, who faces charges involving a minor. Fuller is charged with second-degree sexual abuse and two counts of electronic solicitation of a child. The Tennessee Highway Patrol will conduct three sobriety checkpoints on Friday, October 16. In Giles County, troopers will conduct a checkpoint on U.S. Highway 31 at the 9.5-mile marker. The October 17 Lawrenceburg Saturday Free Lunch will be hosted by Coleman Memorial United Methodist Church, at 322 North Military Avenue in Lawrenceburg. Serving begins around 11 a.m. and continues until the site runs out of food. The lunches are provided weekly by God’s Storehouse and local churches.

A number of government offices have announced closures in observance of the Columbus Day holiday Monday. Federal and state offices will be closed as will Lawrence County government offices and the Cities of Ethridge, Lawrenceburg, and St. Joseph. Loretto officials indicate that their city offices will remain open on Monday.

Loretto Aldermen heard updates on city projects during their business meeting Tuesday. Fire department officials indicated that the newly installed generator is now online. It is expected to eliminate difficulties created during power outages, providing power to operate the large rollup doors and other equipment. The City of St. Joseph will no longer be in the business of selling gravel to area residents. While the city has provided the service in the past, city leaders indicate that the practice creates liability issues and that the city makes no profit off of the sales. The matter was brought before the city commission on Tuesday and commissioners voted to discontinue gravel sales.
