Nationwide Emergency Alert System Test Scheduled for November 17

A nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System is scheduled for Tuesday, November 17.

According to the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency, the test is expected to begin at approximately 1:20 PM Central.

Participating radio and television stations, cable systems and other communications providers will temporarily interrupt regular programming to transmit the national test message.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency conducts nationwide testing to evaluate the readiness of the Emergency Alert System and the infrastructure used to distribute critical information during emergencies.

Officials emphasize that the November 17 alert will only be a test, and no action will be required from the public.
