According to media reports, an 18-year-old Lawrenceburg man was arrested after police said he led officers on a pursuit in a stolen vehicle before crashing in Spring Hill Tuesday night.
Spring Hill Police said a woman reported her black 2019 Ford Mustang stolen from an apartment complex off Columns Way on September 22. As officers searched the area, authorities began receiving reports of a vehicle revving its engine and doing donuts nearby.
Officers located the Mustang near Main Street and Kedron Road, but police said the driver fled when officers attempted to stop the vehicle. Authorities reported the Mustang reached approximately 70 mph in a 35 mph zone.
Police later found the Mustang crashed and smoking in a culvert. Because of the vehicle’s tinted windows and smoke, officers initially could not determine how many people were inside.
Authorities said 18-year-old Jaxon Bryant Rhea eventually emerged from the driver’s side with his hands raised and was taken into custody without incident. A search of the Mustang reportedly uncovered a mask and loaded handgun. Police were investigating ownership of the weapon.
Investigators said surveillance video showed Rhea going through vehicles in the apartment complex parking lot before finding the Mustang unlocked with its keys inside.
Rhea was being held in the Maury County Jail on multiple felony charges, including vehicle theft, evading arrest and reckless driving.
