The National Weather Service has extended Heat Advisories for Middle Tennessee and portions of north Alabama through 8:00 p.m. Saturday (9/19).
In Middle Tennessee, heat index values could reach as high as 108 degrees, while heat index values in north Alabama could reach as high as 109 degrees.
Hot temperatures combined with high humidity may lead to heat-related illnesses.
The National Weather Service encourages everyone to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned location, avoid prolonged time in the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors. Those spending time outdoors should wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and limit strenuous activities to the early morning or evening hours. Outdoor workers should take frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas.
Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool, shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency and requires immediate medical attention.
