Columbia Proclaimed Fruit Tea Capital of the World

The City of Columbia has officially proclaimed itself the “Fruit Tea Capital of the World” and designated fruit tea as the city’s official drink.
Mayor Chaz Molder presented the two proclamations during the Fruit Teaser event Saturday, September 12.
City officials say the proclamations recognize Columbia’s longstanding connection to Southern fruit tea, which has been enjoyed at local restaurants, businesses, gatherings and events for generations.
The Fruit Teaser also served as a preview of Columbia’s inaugural Fruit Tea Festival, scheduled for Saturday, June 26, 2027, at Riverwalk Park.
Plans for the festival include live music, craft vendors, food trucks, a fruit tea tasting competition and other activities.
City officials say the festival is expected to attract visitors to Columbia and provide an economic boost for local restaurants, shops and other businesses.
