According to media reports, Middle Tennessee has recorded more officer-involved shootings so far in 2026 than during all of either of the previous two years.
Data compiled from Tennessee Bureau of Investigation records shows the agency has been asked to investigate 15 officer-involved shootings across Middle Tennessee this year.
That compares with 13 such shootings in both 2024 and 2025 and is two below the five-year high of 17 recorded in 2023.
Ten of this year’s 15 incidents have occurred since the beginning of August.
The incidents include officer-involved shootings in Hickman County, Coffee County, Williamson County, Nashville, Murfreesboro and Columbia, among other Middle Tennessee communities.
The most recent incident occurred Sunday in Clarksville.
The figures only include officer-involved shootings the TBI was asked to investigate and do not represent every law enforcement use-of-force incident.
The TBI investigated 13 officer-involved shootings in Middle Tennessee in 2022, 17 in 2023, 13 in 2024 and 13 in 2025.
