Lawrenceburg Mayor Blake Lay recently presented a proclamation to members of the Buffalo River Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution recognizing September 17 through 23 as Constitution Week in the City of Lawrenceburg.
Constitution Week commemorates the signing of the United States Constitution on September 17, 1787, and encourages citizens to learn more about the document, the freedoms it protects and the responsibilities of citizenship.
Mayor Lay said the Constitution has guided the nation for more than two centuries and that the observance provides an opportunity to reflect on its principles and the responsibility of citizens to remain informed and engaged.
The Daughters of the American Revolution has promoted the annual observance of Constitution Week since 1955, encouraging educational programs, public displays and community activities designed to increase awareness of the Constitution.
The City of Lawrenceburg and the Buffalo River Chapter DAR are encouraging citizens to observe Constitution Week by learning more about the Constitution and reflecting on the rights and responsibilities shared by Americans.
