In north Alabama, the advisory is in effect Tuesday (9/15) through 8:00 p.m., with heat index values expected to reach as high as 109 degrees.

Hot temperatures combined with high humidity may lead to heat-related illnesses.

The National Weather Service encourages everyone to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned location, avoid prolonged time in the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors. Those spending time outdoors should wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and limit strenuous activities to the early morning or evening hours. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool, shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency and requires immediate medical attention.
