Lawrence County Executive David Morgan is reflecting on the beginning of his second four-year term and the opportunities and challenges facing county government.
Morgan was among Lawrence County elected officials sworn into office September 1 as a new four-year term began.
In his latest column, Morgan said his first four years as County Executive provided opportunities to learn more about county government and the people of Lawrence County.
He congratulated both new and returning elected officials and said disagreements are a natural part of representative government, but should not prevent officials from listening to one another and working together.
Looking ahead, Morgan identified education, infrastructure, economic development, public safety and quality of life among the areas requiring continued attention.
Morgan also used the beginning of fall and the approaching harvest season as a comparison for the work of county government, saying progress requires preparation, patience, perseverance and cooperation.
He said the county has worked hard and planted many seeds during the past four years, while emphasizing that much work remains to be done.
Morgan said he begins the new term with optimism and what he described as great expectations for Lawrence County over the next four years.
