Maury County will conduct a routine test of its tornado sirens Saturday, September 5, at 1:00 p.m.
Sirens located throughout the county will be activated briefly to test their capability and readiness.
Maury County Emergency Management says no emergency will be taking place and residents will not need to seek shelter during the test.
The sirens are connected to the National Weather Service and are designed to activate automatically for tornado warnings and warnings for other life-threatening events, including flash floods.
The sirens do not sound for tornado watches or other severe weather watches.
Officials remind residents that tornado sirens are designed primarily to be heard outdoors and recommend having at least two ways to receive severe weather alerts while indoors.
Maury County’s tornado sirens are tested on the first Saturday of each month at 1:00 p.m., although tests may be postponed when severe weather is possible or temperatures are at or below 32 degrees.
