Lawrence County EMS Responds to 675 Calls in August

Lawrence County EMS responded to 675 requests for service during August, an increase of more than 80 calls compared with August of last year.
EMS crews transported 463 patients during the month, including 282 to Southern Tennessee Regional Health System-Lawrenceburg.
Other transports and transfers included 73 to Maury Regional Medical Center, 14 to North Alabama Medical Center, six to Southern Tennessee Regional Health System-Pulaski and 42 to other hospitals outside Lawrence County.
EMS also recorded 129 calls involving refusals of care or situations where no care was required and 79 canceled calls or calls where no patient was found.
During August, responders participated in continuing education covering trauma assessment, electrical injuries, strokes and burns.
Lawrence County EMS also continued its night Emergency Medical Responder course for Lawrence County Fire and Rescue and David Crockett State Park personnel and began a fall EMR course at Lawrence County High School.
The department has also begun interviewing and hiring personnel in preparation for a new 24-hour-on, 72-hour-off work schedule.
New responders are expected to begin orientation in the coming weeks, with the new schedule expected to begin around mid-October.
