Columbia to Conduct Tornado Siren Test September 5

The City of Columbia will conduct a city-wide tornado siren “growl” test Saturday, September 5, at 1:00 p.m.
A growl test is a brief, low-volume operational test used to confirm that the city’s outdoor warning sirens and supporting equipment are functioning properly.
As part of Columbia’s emergency preparedness efforts, tornado siren tests are now scheduled for the first Saturday of each month at 1:00 p.m.
City officials remind residents that the sirens are designed as an outdoor warning system and may not be heard indoors.
Residents are encouraged to have multiple ways to receive emergency notifications.
Columbia also offers the free Hyper-Reach emergency alert system, which provides severe weather and emergency notifications to mobile phones and landlines.
