Columbia Police Officer Recognized Following Weapons Investigation

The Columbia Police Department has named Officer Mounce its Officer of the Month for July following a traffic stop that developed into a weapons and drug investigation.

According to the department, Mounce conducted a traffic stop on July 30 that led to the recovery of three firearms. One of the handguns was reportedly equipped with an illegal conversion device that allowed it to function as a fully automatic weapon.

Officers also recovered additional ammunition, marijuana and other contraband during the investigation.

The department said Mounce’s observations and follow-up during the traffic stop led to the apprehension of individuals involved in weapons, drug and other related offenses.

Columbia Police recognized Mounce for his attention to detail, investigative skills and commitment to the department.
