Lauderdale County Man Sentenced to Two Life Terms for Attempted Murder

According to media reports, a Lauderdale County man was sentenced Monday after entering a plea agreement in connection with a 2024 attack on two elderly women.

Michael Kirkland Jr. was arrested after authorities said he pushed his way into a home on Howell Street and attacked the two women.

Kirkland initially faced numerous charges, including burglary, robbery, sodomy and assault. He was indicted on all charges, including two counts of attempted murder.

Kirkland pleaded guilty Friday to the two attempted murder charges, while the remaining charges were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.

He was sentenced to two concurrent life sentences in the Alabama Department of Corrections, with the possibility of parole on each count.

If Kirkland is paroled, he cannot have contact with any of the victims and will be required to register under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act, or SORNA.

Kirkland was also ordered to pay the victims, and money being held by police as evidence will be released.
