Wes Orton Appointed to Fill Lawrenceburg City Council Seat 4

The Lawrenceburg City Council appointed Wes Orton on Friday, August 14, to fill the vacant City Council Seat 4. Wes is a local business man who will be appointed until December.
The vacancy was created after Darryl Watson resigned from Seat 4 to run for Mayor of Lawrenceburg. The City Charter requires a sitting council member whose seat is not up for election to resign when seeking another city office.
Under the Lawrenceburg City Charter, the remaining members of the Board of Mayor and Council are permitted to appoint someone to fill a council vacancy.
However, because Watson’s original term extends beyond the next municipal election, the charter provides for voters to elect someone to serve the remainder of the unexpired Seat 4 term, provided the vacancy meets the charter’s election-timing requirements.

Orton will serve in the appointed position until a successor is elected and takes office.
