Lawrenceburg City Council Approves Rezoning Measures, Sets September Public Hearings

The Lawrenceburg City Council approved several ordinances and resolutions during its meeting Friday morning, including first readings on two rezoning requests for proposed residential developments.

The council approved Ordinance 1459 on first reading, involving approximately 13.31 acres on the north side of West Point Road and east side of U.S. Highway 64. The Hill Construction, LLC property is currently zoned R-2 Low Density Residential, with a request to change it to R-4 High Density Residential for a proposed subdivision known as Trinity Cove. A public hearing is scheduled for September 10.

The council also approved Ordinance 1460 on first reading. The measure involves approximately 53.74 acres at 196 Gimlet Road, owned by 4 Gilliam Properties, LLC. The requested change from R-2 Low Density Residential to R-3 Medium Density Residential is intended to facilitate a proposed triplex subdivision known as Gimlet Park. A public hearing is also scheduled for September 10.

Ordinance 1461, which would amend Ordinance 1413 by adding exceptions to portions of the International Residential Code, was approved on first reading.

Action on Ordinance 1458 was deferred until September 10.

The council also approved a resolution authorizing an agreement with the State of Tennessee to install a kiosk at 25 Public Square and a resolution reappointing John Ferguson to the Board of Zoning Appeals, with his term to expire June 30, 2030.

Additional resolutions approved by the council included a change to the official zoning map to the Board of Zoning Appeals Map, authorization for the purchase of the Tennessee National Guard Armory property, and authorization to purchase two 2025 Ford Explorer Police units from Lonnie Cobb Ford of Henderson, Tennessee.

During public comments, Rick Skillington spoke regarding Ordinance 1460, while T.J. Moore spoke regarding Ordinance 1459. Lawrenceburg Fire Department Deputy Chief Beckman presented the department manager report.
