Dangerous heat is expected across Middle Tennessee through the beginning of next week, with triple-digit heat index values forecast for areas west of the Cumberland Plateau.
According to the National Weather Service in Nashville, most likely high temperatures across the forecast area will range from 85 to 104 degrees, while heat index values are expected to range from 94 to 110 degrees or higher.
In Lawrenceburg, the maximum heat index is forecast to reach 102 degrees Wednesday, 103 Thursday, 106 Friday, 106 Saturday, 106 Sunday, and 105 Monday.
Conditions could feel even hotter farther north. Columbia is forecast to see maximum heat index values ranging from 106 to 109 degrees, while Nashville could see heat index values between 110 and 113 degrees during the period.
The National Weather Service encourages residents to stay hydrated, reduce time outdoors between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., and stay in a cool location during the hottest part of the day whenever possible.
Residents should take precautions when working or spending extended periods outdoors as the prolonged stretch of dangerous heat continues.
