The Giles County Sheriff’s Office is reminding motorists to pay close attention to their tires as summer temperatures continue to climb.
The department says extreme heat and hot roadways can contribute to tire tread breakdown and increase the risk of tire failure. Drivers are encouraged to have their tires inspected regularly and replace them if necessary.
The Tennessee Highway Safety Office also recommends checking tire pressure when the tires are cold, meaning the vehicle has not been driven for at least three hours, to ensure an accurate reading. Proper tire maintenance, including keeping tires inflated to the recommended pressure and rotating them regularly, can help reduce the risk of flat tires, blowouts, and tread separation.
