Four Rescued from Floodwaters in Giles County Early Wednesday

Four people were rescued from rising floodwaters early Wednesday morning after becoming trapped in their homes along Big Dry Creek, according to Giles County Fire & Rescue.

Around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, members of the department’s swift water rescue team responded after floodwaters surrounded the homes. Lawrence County Fire & Rescue’s swift water team also assisted with the operation, along with the Giles County Sheriff’s Office, Giles County EMS, Giles County E-911, and the Giles County Office of Emergency Management.

Giles County Fire & Rescue later reported that all four residents were safely rescued with assistance from the Giles County Sheriff’s Office. Giles County EMS evaluated all four individuals at the scene, and no additional information on injuries was released.

Emergency officials continue to urge motorists to avoid flooded roadways and never attempt to drive through standing water.
