STRHS-Lawrenceburg Receives National Recognition for Stroke Care

Southern Tennessee Regional Health System – Lawrenceburg has received the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke Silver Quality Achievement Award for its commitment to providing evidence-based stroke care.

The award recognizes hospitals that consistently follow nationally recognized treatment guidelines to help ensure stroke patients receive timely, appropriate care that can improve survival, reduce disability, and support recovery.

According to the American Heart Association, stroke is the nation’s fourth-leading cause of death and a leading cause of disability. Early recognition and rapid treatment are critical because a stroke occurs when blood flow to part of the brain is blocked or a blood vessel ruptures, depriving brain tissue of oxygen.

Rhee Perry, CEO of Southern Tennessee Regional Health System – Lawrenceburg, said the hospital is committed to improving patient care by following the latest treatment guidelines. Perry said the Get With The Guidelines program helps the hospital’s teams put proven science into practice every day.

Hospitals earning the award demonstrate a commitment to following evidence-based clinical guidelines while also providing education to help patients manage their recovery after returning home.

Dr. Steven Messe, volunteer chair of the American Heart Association Stroke System of Care Advisory Group, said the organization is proud to recognize Southern Tennessee Regional Health System – Lawrenceburg for its commitment to caring for stroke patients. Messe said participation in the Get With The Guidelines program has been associated with improved patient outcomes, including a greater likelihood of patients being discharged home, fewer hospital readmissions, and lower mortality rates.
