Volunteer fire departments and rescue squads in Lawrence and Wayne counties have received more than $1.16 million in state grant funding.

State Sen. Page Walley announced the funding during a presentation in Lawrenceburg, saying the Tennessee General Assembly significantly increased grant funding for volunteer fire departments and rescue squads during this year’s legislative session.

According to Walley, lawmakers approved $25 million for volunteer fire departments, $5 million for rescue squads, and an additional $1 million to supplement fire engine purchase grants.

Walley said the grants presented to Lawrence and Wayne counties total $1.16 million and noted that similar grants will be awarded to other counties in the coming weeks.

The senator thanked the volunteer firefighters and rescue personnel for their service to their communities.
