Quick Response Limits Damage in Leoma House Fire

A fast response by Lawrence County Fire Rescue helped contain a residential fire Monday afternoon in the Leoma Fire District.

According to Lawrence County Fire Rescue, units were dispatched at approximately 2:27 p.m. to a reported structure fire. Firefighters arrived about three minutes later to find smoke and flames coming from the residence.

Crews immediately launched an aggressive interior attack while firefighters searched the home for occupants. Additional personnel from Lawrence County Fire Rescue, the Lawrenceburg Fire Department, and Lawrence County Emergency Management Agency responded to assist.

Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control before it spread throughout the home. The residence was occupied at the time of the fire, but no injuries were reported.

Officials said the fire is believed to have been accidental in nature. Properly functioning smoke alarms alerted the resident to the fire.

With temperatures exceeding 90 degrees, Lawrence County EMS was also on scene to provide medical monitoring for firefighters working in the extreme heat.

Lawrence County Fire Rescue noted that supplemental daytime staffing, made possible through increased funding approved by county officials last year, helped strengthen the department’s response during an incident that occurred when volunteer availability is typically limited.
