Tennessee’s unemployment rate remained unchanged at 3.6% in May, marking the fourth consecutive month the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate has held at that level.

According to the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, the state’s unemployment rate was 3.5% one year ago and remains below the national unemployment rate of 4.3%.

Employers across Tennessee added 5,700 nonfarm jobs between April and May. The largest job gains were in the leisure and hospitality sector, followed by durable goods manufacturing and government.

Compared to one year ago, Tennessee added 8,000 nonfarm jobs. The biggest increases were in health care and social assistance, administrative and support and waste services, and leisure and hospitality.

The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development will release unemployment rates for all 95 counties on Thursday, June 25.
