Lawrence County Fire & Rescue is encouraging the public to support Columbia Firefighter Engineer Nick Risner and his family as he continues his battle with cancer.

According to the department, Risner has served with Columbia Fire & Rescue since May 2014 and lives in Lawrence County. He also spent many years serving in the volunteer fire service while living in a neighboring county.

The Yard Foundation says Risner was diagnosed with colon cancer during a routine physical in February 2023. Since then, the cancer has spread to his liver and lungs, and he continues to undergo treatment.

Lawrence County Fire & Rescue described Risner and his family as “great people” and encouraged anyone who is able to help to consider supporting them.

Information on how to support the Risner family is available through The Yard Foundation at theyardfoundation.org/mayday/risner.
