Lawrenceburg City Council Recap: June 11 Meeting

The Lawrenceburg City Council unanimously approved a series of ordinances and resolutions during its June 11 meeting, including measures related to transportation improvements, public safety grants, and a proposed pedestrian trail project.

Council members approved on second reading an ordinance accepting a Tennessee Department of Transportation matching grant to create an access road to Columbia State Community College from U.S. Highway 43 and establish a name and speed limit for the roadway.

The council also unanimously approved on first reading a budget amendment, a tax rate amendment based on the 2026 property reappraisal, and changes to the city’s historic zoning regulations.

Several grant-related resolutions were approved by unanimous voice vote, including authorization for the Lawrenceburg Fire Department to apply for federal SAFER grants to hire six full-time firefighters and recruit and retain fifteen volunteers. Additional grant applications would support firefighter breathing equipment, portable communications equipment, EMS training, and medical equipment.

Council members also approved a grant application for a proposed pedestrian walking and bike trail connecting David Crockett State Park and downtown Lawrenceburg.

During public comments, Elle McCann addressed concerns regarding the proposed data center project, Sunshine Law violations, transparency, and Chad Moore’s eligibility to serve on the City Council. McCann also requested consideration of an 18-month moratorium on data center development. Ricky Cromwell likewise spoke about the proposed data center project and supported an 18-month moratorium on data center development.

The council also unanimously approved an agreement with the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency and an amendment to a state transportation agreement involving signalization projects at several Lawrenceburg intersections.
