LCFR Receives Pet Life Jacket Donation for Water Rescue Operations

Lawrence County Fire & Rescue has received a donation of specialized pet life jackets to be used during water rescue and flood evacuation operations.

Officials say water rescue teams already carry personal flotation devices, or PFDs, for both rescue personnel and victims. The equipment is used to help safely rescue individuals stranded in floodwaters or other water emergencies.

The newly donated pet PFDs will allow responders to provide the same level of protection for dogs and other household pets during evacuations and rescues.

According to LCFR, families often need assistance relocating pets during flooding events, making the additional equipment a valuable resource. The department said the pet life jackets require minimal storage space while adding another layer of safety for animals affected by water emergencies.

The pet PFDs were donated by members of Lawrence County Fire & Rescue.
