Saint Joseph Leaders Approve Guidelines for Sober Living Facilities

During their June 2 meeting, members of the Saint Joseph Board of Commissioners adopted on first reading rules and regulations for sober living houses situated inside the city limits.   While there is already one such facility in Saint Joseph, officials said there was no type of oversight or restrictions.  They recently learned that a second parcel of property had been purchased and another facility proposed for the area.  The resolution implements guidelines such as proximity to schools, churches and other homes, requires that they be licensed through the city and recognized through the Department of Health, and stipulates that the facility would be subject to inspections.  The resolution must also be approved on a second reading.
