Lewis County Judge Hears Case Against Himself

A Lewis County judge recently presided over a traffic case in which he was also the defendant.

According to reports, Lewis County General Sessions Judge Mike Hinson appeared in court after being cited for texting while driving. During the proceeding, Hinson requested that the court clerk record the hearing.

Reports indicate that Hinson admitted responsibility for the violation and assessed himself a $60 fine, the amount prescribed under Tennessee law.

Following the hearing, Hinson reportedly emphasized the dangers of distracted driving and noted that even brief distractions behind the wheel can have serious consequences.
