Lawrence County Fire & Rescue Responds to Multiple Serious Crashes

Lawrence County Fire & Rescue reported Thursday evening that its personnel responded to seven emergency calls for service during the day, including three serious motor vehicle crashes.

According to the department, one of the crashes involved an entrapment and another resulted in a fatality. The department said the fatal crash marked its second response to a traffic-related fatality this week.

The first two crashes were dispatched approximately 15 minutes apart Thursday afternoon. The first involved a motor vehicle and an Amish buggy on South Locust Avenue near Fresenius Medical.

Roughly 15 minutes later, responders were dispatched to an automobile versus motorcycle crash near the Mars Hill Churches at the intersection of Weakley Creek Road and Community Road. According to preliminary reports, one person was killed in the collision. Witnesses reported that emergency personnel attempted life-saving measures following the crash.

A third serious crash was reported approximately 90 minutes after the first incident at the intersection of Highway 64 West and Turnpike Road. Initial reports indicated that one vehicle rolled over multiple times during the collision.

Additional information regarding the crashes was not immediately available. Investigations into the incidents are continuing.
