Maury County to Conduct Outdoor Siren Test June 6

The Maury County Office of Emergency Management is reminding residents that a routine outdoor warning siren test is scheduled for Saturday, June 6, at 1:00 PM.

Officials say tornado sirens located throughout the county will be activated briefly to test their readiness and capability. No emergency is taking place, and residents do not need to seek shelter during the test.

According to Maury County Emergency Management, the sirens are connected to the National Weather Service and are designed to sound during tornado warnings and other life-threatening emergencies, including certain flash flood warnings. The sirens do not sound for watches.

Emergency officials also remind residents that outdoor warning sirens are intended to be heard outdoors and should not be relied upon as the sole source of severe weather information while indoors. Residents are encouraged to have multiple ways of receiving weather alerts.

Maury County normally tests its outdoor warning sirens at 1:00 PM on the first Saturday of each month. Tests may be postponed due to severe weather concerns or freezing temperatures.
