According to the TimesDaily, officials in St. Florian are considering annexing additional property into the town limits as new housing developments move forward in the area.

According to Mayor Matthew Connolly, one subdivision is planned across from Pops BBQ, while another is expected behind Big Star. Although the businesses are already inside the town limits, the land for the proposed housing developments is currently outside town boundaries.

Connolly said the developments are connected to The Agency on Pine and Southern Blue Builders, the same group behind Blue Ridge Estates.

The smaller subdivision planned behind Big Star is expected to include approximately 11 homes. Connolly said homes in the area are expected to range from around $500,000 to as much as $700,000 in nearby Blue Ridge Estates developments.

The mayor said annexation could help provide additional revenue for town services as the area continues to grow. Connolly also noted that some nearby areas already receive patrol coverage from the town despite technically being outside the municipal limits.

According to Connolly, some of the irregular town boundaries date back to St. Florian’s incorporation in 1972, when some nearby property owners chose not to be included within town limits.
