Lawrence County Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition is encouraging families and community members to have open conversations with young people about mental health and online pressures.

In a recent social media post, the coalition shared tips aimed at helping teenagers cope with the pressure of appearing “perfect” online. Suggestions included avoiding comparisons with others on social media, spending time on hobbies away from screens, and talking with trusted adults or friends about online pressure.

The coalition also emphasized the importance of creating safe spaces where children feel heard, supported, and understood.

Officials said conversations about mental health “do not have to be perfect — it just has to begin,” adding the goal is to help young people know they are not alone.
