Among the measures highlighted was legislation aimed at strengthening truancy enforcement and student attendance tracking. According to Hensley, the law is designed to improve coordination between schools and juvenile courts when students involved in truancy intervention programs withdraw without re-enrolling elsewhere.
Hensley also highlighted legislation allowing schools to stock epinephrine nasal spray in addition to traditional auto-injectors for emergency allergy treatment.
Additional legislation discussed in the update includes measures strengthening Tennessee’s restrictions on DEI policies in government and public education, prohibiting school districts from using taxpayer funds for lawsuits against the state involving accountability measures, and placing limits on certain charter school administrative costs.
The update also referenced legislation requiring closure of low-performing virtual schools that significantly underperform for three consecutive years.
Hensley represents Tennessee’s 28th Senatorial District, which includes Giles, Lewis, Marshall, and Maury counties, along with the Williamson County portion of Spring Hill.
