Tennessee’s unemployment rate remained unchanged at 3.6 percent in April, marking the third consecutive month the statewide rate has held steady.
According to the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remains below the national unemployment rate of 4.3 percent.
State officials say Tennessee employers added 1,200 nonfarm jobs between March and April. The largest gains were reported in the construction sector, followed by durable goods manufacturing and accommodation and food services.
Compared to one year ago, Tennessee added 900 nonfarm jobs, with the largest increases occurring in health care and social assistance, state government, and administrative and support services.
The Department of Labor also highlighted the state’s Youth Employment Program, or YEP, which provides work experience opportunities for Tennesseans ages 14 through 24.
County unemployment numbers for April are scheduled to be released May 28.
