According to media reports, Virginia Transformer Corporation has started site work on a new 600,000 square-foot power transformer manufacturing facility at Shoals Research Airpark in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
Company officials say the new plant will be capable of producing transformers ranging from 2MVA to 500MVA. The facility will become Virginia Transformer’s seventh U.S. location.
Officials say the project is expected to bring approximately 1,100 new jobs to Colbert County once fully operational.
Heidi Smith, Vice President of Economic Development for TVA, said TVA and Muscle Shoals Electric Board are excited to welcome the company to the area and said the project reflects continued regional efforts to support job creation and industrial investment.
Initial production at the new facility is expected to begin in January 2028.
The development is the latest major project announced for Shoals Research Airpark as local leaders continue recruiting advanced manufacturing and energy-related industries to the area.
