Maury County Mayor Voices Opposition to Data Centers on Farmland

Maury County Mayor Sheila Butt says she opposes the development of data centers on farmland as concerns over proposed projects continue to grow in parts of Middle Tennessee.

In a social media post featuring a photo of cattle on her property, Butt said, “I will never be a part of giving up my land or yours for a Data Center.”

During the discussion, the mayor said increasing use of artificial intelligence is contributing to the growing number of proposed data center projects.

When asked by a resident about the possibility of banning data centers in Maury County, Butt responded that she is “looking into that now for Maury County.”

Butt also responded to questions about possible data center development near Beechcroft Road and noted that Spring Hill currently has a moratorium in place while discussions continue there.

The discussion comes as residents in multiple Tennessee communities, including Lawrence County, have raised concerns about proposed data center projects and their potential impact on farmland, utilities, water usage, and surrounding neighborhoods.
