According to reporting by NewsChannel 5, some Lawrenceburg-area residents are voicing concerns over a planned data center near the city.
Reports indicate the facility would total approximately 60,000 square feet and would be built on property that was rezoned earlier this year from Large Lot Residential to Light Industrial.
Many residents interviewed for the report said they were unaware of the project until learning about it through a letter to the editor published in The Advocate.
Concerns raised by residents include transparency surrounding the project, potential noise from generators, environmental impacts, and possible effects on local power and water usage.
The report also noted that a petition opposing the project gathered thousands of signatures and that a large crowd attended the April 23 Lawrenceburg City Council meeting to express concerns.
During an April 20 interview with WLX Radio, Lawrenceburg Utility Systems CEO Vic Pusser and Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce President Ryan Egly discussed aspects of the project.
Discussion has also continued online following the report, with commenters on NewsChannel 5’s Facebook page expressing a wide range of opinions about the planned development. Many commenters voiced concerns about infrastructure demands, environmental impacts, and transparency, while others expressed support for the project or called for additional public discussion and information.
Additional reporting on the project is expected in the coming days.
