State Senator Joey Hensley has released an update highlighting investments included in Tennessee’s new $58 billion balanced budget for the 2026-2027 fiscal year.
According to Hensley, the budget includes a $20 million investment into the state’s Rainy Day Fund, bringing reserves to more than $2.2 billion.
The budget also includes funding for healthcare initiatives, including $137 million to assist hospitals with uncompensated care, particularly in rural areas, along with additional TennCare and rural healthcare funding.
Infrastructure investments include $400 million for transportation projects, $165 million for rest area and welcome center renovations, and $81.2 million for aviation infrastructure.
The budget also provides $20 million for volunteer fire departments, $5 million for emergency medical services, and $5 million for volunteer rescue squads.
Additional funding includes money for workforce development, rural development, workforce housing, senior centers, local museums, local fairs, and courthouse renovations.
