Lawrence County Primary Election Results Announced

Unofficial results from the Lawrence County Election Commission, with all 24 precincts reporting, show David Aaron Morgan winning the Republican primary for County Executive.

Morgan received 1,892 votes, or 57.09 percent, compared to 1,414 votes, or 42.67 percent, for Phillip J. Heatherly. Morgan will face Independent candidate Shane Eaton in the August 6 General Election.

Other contested races included County Commission District 5, where Blake Grooms defeated John D. Bradley by a vote of 151 to 101. Grooms is expected to face Independent candidate Jaden Williams in August.

In County Commission District 14, Sandy Newton defeated Steven Brazier by a vote of 125 to 69. Newton will face Independent candidate Cam Benefield in the General Election.

Voter turnout was reported at 12.02 percent, with 3,362 ballots cast out of 27,980 registered voters.

In uncontested races, John Myers received 2,452 votes for sheriff and will face Independent candidates Chris Hannah and Gary Mills in August. Tommy Lee Kidd received 2,788 votes for Circuit Court Clerk, and Russ Brewer received 2,695 votes for County Clerk.

School board winners included John Daniel in District 5 with 230 votes and Corey Rochelle in District 6 with 312 votes.

Jerod Menz received 631 votes in the Republican primary for Constable in the Middle District and is expected to face Independent candidate Jeremy Rochelle in the General Election.
