Summertown Tornado Siren Effort Surpasses Initial Goal

Efforts to install a tornado warning siren in the Summertown area have quickly surpassed their initial fundraising goal.

According to County Commissioner Scott Franks, the campaign reached its $5,000 goal in about 15 hours. Franks also says a second siren has now been donated, allowing for expanded coverage in the area.

With the addition of a second siren, organizers have increased the fundraising goal to $8,000 to help cover installation costs.

The original plan called for a siren to be installed near the water towers along Highway 20 to provide coverage for central Summertown, including nearby schools.

Officials say any remaining funds will be used toward future siren projects, and a full accounting of donations and expenses will be provided once the project is complete.
