Emergency responders responded to severe weather that impacted Lawrence County early Tuesday morning, April 28.

Officials say a Tornado Warning was issued for northern Lawrence County around 1:40 AM, with calls for service beginning shortly after. Two wind events are believed to have occurred between approximately 2:00 AM and 3:00 AM, affecting the northern two-thirds of the county, including the Summertown and Ethridge areas.

Numerous trees and power lines were reported down across roadways, with damage to vehicles and structures, particularly along TN-20, Stephenson Road, Dukes Park Road, and surrounding areas. Crews have responded to more than 50 calls for service, with at least two storm-related injuries reported, including one involving a tree falling on a vehicle.

More than 5,000 Lawrenceburg Utility System customers were without power at one point as crews worked to clear debris and restore service.

Multiple agencies responded, including Lawrence County Fire and Rescue, EMS, the sheriff’s department, highway department, Tennessee Highway Patrol, TEMA, and Lawrence County EMA. A command post was established at the Summertown High School parking lot.

Officials say crews continue working in the area, and radio traffic indicates fire operations have returned to normal channel usage following the initial surge in calls.

Authorities say it has not yet been determined whether the damage was caused by straight-line winds or a tornado. The National Weather Service is expected to survey the area.

Motorists are urged to use caution and avoid affected areas.
