Lawrence County Fire & Rescue responded to a structure fire Friday afternoon, April 24 in the West End Fire District.

According to officials, crews had just returned from another fire in the Henryville Fire District when the call came in. First arriving units from West End, followed by Henryville, found a working fire with nearby structures at risk.

Firefighters began an interior attack and were able to stop the spread of the fire. Additional units from Ethridge and Gandy also responded to assist.

During the response, one firefighter experienced a medical emergency. The firefighter was treated on scene and transported to the hospital by Lawrence County EMS, where they were later released.

Officials say firefighting is a physically demanding and hazardous job, and they expressed appreciation for EMS crews providing advanced life support standby during fire responses when available.
