Lawrence County Fire & Rescue has begun its annual fire hydrant maintenance program across the county.

Officials say crews have been out locating hidden hydrants, clearing vegetation, and performing routine maintenance to ensure hydrants are accessible and ready for use during emergencies.

Residents may see crews using equipment such as weed eaters, brush blades, and paint as part of the effort.

Fire officials are also reminding property owners not to cover, hide, or obstruct fire hydrants, noting that easy access can make a critical difference during a fire response.

Crews have started limited flow testing of hydrants but say that portion of the program has been temporarily suspended due to ongoing drought conditions. Officials plan to resume testing once measurable rainfall is received.
