Friday Morning House Fire Claims Life in Lawrence County

A house fire early Friday morning, April 17, has claimed one life and left another person injured in Lawrence County.

According to Lawrence County Fire & Rescue, crews were dispatched around 3:28 AM to a reported structure fire in the Crossroads Fire District, with initial reports indicating a person was trapped inside.

First responders arrived to find a large home with heavy fire conditions affecting roughly 30% of the structure. Officials say two occupants were able to escape, but a third remained inside. The occupants who escaped attempted to rescue the individual but were unable due to intense heat and smoke.

Firefighters entered the home to battle the fire and search for the victim. During the response, a sheriff’s deputy located the victim through an opening in the structure, allowing crews to quickly reach and remove the individual.

The victim was brought out of the home and treated by Lawrence County EMS and deputies, with resuscitation efforts continuing during transport to a local hospital. Officials say the individual later died from injuries related to the fire.

A second occupant was treated and transported to Southern Tennessee Regional Health System for injuries related to the fire and has since been released.

Authorities say the home sustained extensive damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation but is believed to be accidental.
