IRS Extends Tax Deadline to June 8 for Tennessee Storm Victims

The Internal Revenue Service has expanded tax relief for Tennesseans impacted by Winter Storm Fern, extending deadlines to June 8, 2026.

Officials say the updated relief now applies to taxpayers in all 95 counties across Tennessee.

The extension allows individuals and businesses additional time to file federal tax returns and make payments that were originally due between January 22 and June 8.

The relief also applies to quarterly payroll and certain excise tax returns, as well as estimated income tax payments during that period. Penalties for certain payroll and excise tax deposits may be waived if payments were made by early February.

The IRS says relief is applied automatically for eligible taxpayers. Those outside the disaster area but still affected can call the IRS disaster assistance line at 866-562-5227 to request assistance.

Officials say affected taxpayers may also qualify for additional relief, including the ability to claim disaster-related losses on their tax returns.
