Lewis County has been approved for FEMA Individual Assistance as part of the federal disaster declaration for Winter Storm Fern.

Officials say residents whose homes, property, or personal belongings were damaged during the storm may be eligible for financial assistance. Potential coverage includes temporary housing, home repairs, replacement of essential personal property, and other disaster-related expenses.

Residents can apply online at DisasterAssistance.gov, by calling 800-621-3362, or through the FEMA mobile app.

Applicants should be prepared to provide contact information, the address of the damaged property, a description of storm-related damage, household income details, and insurance information if applicable.

Officials also remind residents that FEMA may contact applicants from unknown numbers and warn that FEMA will never ask for payment.

Eligibility for assistance is determined by FEMA and the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency, not local government. Officials encourage anyone significantly impacted by the storm to apply as soon as possible.
