Young Lawrenceburg Man Dies In Boating Accident

A young Lawrenceburg man lost his life in a boating accident Friday on Normandy Lake in Coffee County.  Authorities with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency report that 21-year-old Ashton Matney had gone to the lake to scout for turkey.  He told his fiancé around 7 that he was returning to the boat ramp, however authorities received a call around 11:30 of an unoccupied boat adrift on the lake.  Later, they received a call from Matney’s family saying he did not return as expected and they had been unable to reach him by phone.  A search ensued and just before 8 p.m. authorities located and recovered his body in about 10 feet of water.  TWRA is continuing to investigate the incident.
