Drought Conditions Worsen Across Tennessee and Alabama

Dry conditions continue to intensify across Tennessee and Alabama, according to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor report released April 9.

In Tennessee, more than 96% of the state is experiencing at least abnormally dry conditions, with over 86% in moderate drought or worse. About 31% of the state is now in severe drought, and just over 1% is classified in extreme drought.

Conditions have worsened compared to the previous week, particularly in areas classified under moderate to severe drought.

In Alabama, more than 88% of the state is experiencing abnormally dry conditions or worse, with over 77% in moderate drought or greater. Nearly 33% of the state is in severe drought, and close to 18% is experiencing extreme drought conditions.

Officials note the Drought Monitor reflects broad regional conditions, and local impacts may vary. The report is based on data valid as of April 7.
