The City of St. Joseph has announced the launch of Operation First Impression, a citywide ordinance enforcement initiative aimed at improving cleanliness, safety, and overall quality of life.

City Manager Chris D. Jackson says the effort is focused on maintaining a community that is both clean and safe, noting that appearance plays a key role in economic success and community pride.

The initiative is designed to protect neighborhoods and property values, with officials emphasizing that enforcement will be applied fairly and consistently. The city says it will work with residents who are making a genuine effort to correct issues, but ongoing neglect and repeated violations will be addressed.

Enforcement will target common concerns such as overgrown lots, trash and debris, stagnant water, junk or inoperable vehicles, unsafe or unsanitary property conditions, animal-related violations, and improper use of temporary structures.

Police Chief Adam Brewer says the initiative focuses on enforcing existing ordinances and addressing issues that impact safety and livability. While voluntary compliance is encouraged, citations and fines may be issued when necessary.

Violations could result in court action and fines of up to $50 per day until the issue is corrected.

City officials encourage residents and property owners to address any potential violations and to contact St. Joseph City Hall with questions or for assistance in coming into compliance.
