Lawrence County EMS responded to 628 service requests during March, according to its monthly report.
A total of 442 patients were transported. Of those, 69 were taken to Maury Regional Medical Center, 14 to North Alabama Medical Center, and five to Southern Tennessee Regional Health System in Pulaski. Another 44 transports were made to facilities in other counties.
The report shows 126 calls resulted in refusal of care or no care required, while 66 calls were canceled or no patient was found. Crews also handled 24 calls involving fire standby, law enforcement assistance, or mutual aid.
Officials noted call volume increased slightly compared to February.
EMS personnel completed continuing education in HazMat response, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, difficult airway procedures, and sexual harassment training. Outreach efforts during the month included CPR checkoffs for citizens and multiple classes for Lawrence County Government employees covering CPR, AED use, and bleeding control following the installation of AEDs in county buildings. Officials say those classes will continue in April.
